A loud thunder hit the valley in the Sierra Nevada. The sound echoed through the mountain peaks. Cows gave me a terrified look, waiting for me to let them out of the pasture.

It was a sunrise by Lake Tahoe, one of the really cold ones. There was a thin layer of ice forming on the water, so delicate that it was being broken by the wind. You can see it zig-zagging on the water surface, around the tiny island.
I went to Battery Spencer to photograph sunset on the northern side of Golden Gate bridge. I turned around and this is what I saw behind my back – sun setting in the hills around Rodeo Cove.
